There's Simply Nothing Else Like It.

It's almost impossible to explain the feelings you get while racing this event. Think Ragnar Trail, but not trail running. Honestly even that falls short. It's the moment you're 20 hours into your race and you look around you to see nothing but stars, towering, lush green trees, the symphony of crickets on the water and dozens of other inspiring people around you out here to have fun, push their limit and try something new. Maybe that best explains the feeling.

I can guarantee you this. You will leave this race feeling exhausted and uplifted all at the same time.

We have two rules here at this race:
1. Don't be a jerk. Be kind to everyone, we're all here to have fun and no one wins anyways.
2. Don't quit. This format can be incredibly challenging. Don't give up on yourself when it gets hard. You got this.

The format is completely unique and we're the only one in the world organizing races like this one. Although we've been selling out a similar event in Wisconsin for the last 6 years, this is the first time we head West and bring the race to beautiful Henry Hagg Lake.

We call Oregon home, we love this lake and we can not wait to share it with everyone.

RACE FORMAT: HOW IT WORKS

The goal of this event is to log as many complete triathlons, duathlons, or single laps (for run, swim or bike only events) in the allotted time. You may choose to race as a solo athlete or as a team of up to 8 athletes. Choose from an 8 hour, 12 hour, 24 hour or 36 hour race.

You and or your team will be given a "pit area" inside the Village where you setup camp for the duration of the event. This is where you sleep, eat, store your gear, etc.. - your home away from home.

You are not required to change disciplines in between each leg of the event. For example, you may bike 10 laps in a row, then swim 5 and then run 8. You can complete laps of any discipline in any order. Teams are not required to change athletes after each leg. For example, team member A can run 5 loops in a row, then bike 3 before handing off to team member B. Please note that two run laps are required to complete one full triathlon.

OR Course

SWIM COURSE DETAILS

0.25 miles (.402km) Open Water Loop

The swim takes place in Henry Hagg Lake near the race village. The swim here is generally comfortable with a water temp of around 65 - 72 degrees. The area you will be swimming is considered a deeper body of water although you will be able to easily stand each lap at the swim in / out. There is a nice sandy area at the swim in /out.

You will swim a 0.25 mile loop and then exit the water after each completed loop. Timers will be sitting at a table on the shore and it is important you exit the water, follow the loop around the timing table and communicate your race number with our volunteer swim timers. The swim course is open from 7:00am - 6:00pm Friday and 7:00am - 10:00am on Saturday.

A swimmer may use any swim stroke to propel themselves through the water and may tread water or float. You may not use any floatation device, flippers, or fins on the swim. Swim Caps are required at all times. We ask you to wear a brightly colored cap to help our team maintain good visibility on you during your swim. Wetsuits are allowed.

A kayaker or paddle boarder will be in the water at all times. We often have multiple "boats" on the water at once depending on the amount of swimmers in the water.

BIKE COURSE DETAILS

10.68 miles (17.187km) Open Road Bike Loop

The bike segment boasts some butter smooth roads, awesome views and highlights some good size climbs and descents. It's an equally fun and challenging bike course. As it gets dark, you will be required to use adequate lighting (white light) on the front of your bike and a red flashing light on the rear. The front white light should broadcast decently 10’ or more. We also highly suggest a headlamp attached to your helmet. Ensure you have sufficient batteries to last throughout the night. There is electricity available to charge spare batteries inside the race village.

Please ride with caution. It is HIGHLY recommended you practice some night riding before making your way up to the event. All 36 Hour athletes are REQUIRED to begin and complete one loop of the bike course to begin the event unless you are racing a 36hr run or swim. At the end of the day, cars are bigger than bikes so please stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.

Roads are OPEN and you must obey all traffic laws while on course. “Just like a training ride” is the mindset while on the route. It is the riders responsibility to know and understand the bike route. We do have glowing cones and reflective signs placed along the route during the entirety of the event. Road bikes must be in good working order. Remember to inspect your bikes before the race so you do not have any mechanical surprises on the bike course. You may use more than one bike during the race.

You must wear an ANSI/Snell approved bike helmet during the bike course and have it buckled at all times when touching your bike. YOU MAY NOT DRAFT during this event. While on the bike segment, cyclists shall not work together to improve performance, efficiency, or position by teamwork or other joint conduct. All cyclists must assume and maintain a staggered riding position relative to the cyclists directly ahead.

No headphones are allowed. While you may carry a phone, you cannot use it for music on the bike.

OR36-Bike-Course.jpg.webp

RUN COURSE DETAILS

1.3 miles (3.218km) Run Loop

Please note that 2 run laps are required to complete one full triathlon.

The run is on both paved road and single track trail with plenty of shade but also a few sections of exposure to sun. The trail is not technical and is a wider single track making it easy to run alongside and pass a slower runner in front of you. Remember that road section of the run course is OPEN - please run with caution as vehicles will still be using the roadway. The course is very well marked both during the day and in the evening hours with glow sticks and bright orange illuminated cones.

Crew is not allowed to be on course for support. All support must be done within the village. You may stop and rest at any time along the course, but the race clock is still in motion. Athletes may not receive any assistance in the form of transportation. You may not have your support crew pace you during the run.

Breaking my own rule: The stars are usually incredible here at night. We encourage you to break our headlamp rule for about 10 seconds. Make sure there are no cars around, stop, turn off your light and look up - the sky can be amazing!

OR36-Run-Course.jpg.webp

NIGHT HOURS

DO NOT FORGET YOUR LIGHTS!

Lights are required on the run and bike between the hours of 7:00pm and 7:00am. On the run, a headlamp or handheld flashlight must be worn at all times during the night hours. On the bike, a white headlight AND a red rear light are required at all times during the night hours. We do have a place where you can charge your batteries during the day to make sure your gear will last through the night.

We will have a charging station available inside the village. However, we do Highly recommend you charge all your head and tail lights prior to arriving to the race site.

OR VILLAGE

The MAMMOTH Village

Your Home Base During The Event.

Each athlete will be assigned a "pit area" inside our village. This pit area is where you will store belongings during the event and from where your crew will support you. The village is right off the main bike and run course and directly across from the beach - giving you easy access to your supplies / food and crew for all three disciplines. All food is served inside the village area. You can expect to find a charging station towards the front of the race village near the aid station. Our Aid station will have Hammer Nutrition products available to you as well as a variety of sweet and salty snacks to munch on. We do not provide phone cords but will have power strips available for you to plug in and charge your devices.

You may bring your own chairs, coolers, food, equipment, etc.. We ask that there are no open flames inside your pit area. Please have adequate weights to hold down the tent in case we experience any type of wind, which is common for this race. You may bring your own lights and "camping" equipment but keep in mind space is tight and quite limited. You're not here to sleep - you're here to race!

Quiet hours in the village begin at 8pm. We will have music playing during the day and afternoon hours.

Portable Restrooms are available inside the village area.

ON COURSE AID STATION

Athletes have the ability to receive aid from their crew every lap of the ANVIL. This is one of the
many benefits of racing the ANVIL
 race.

We also make a point to keep our Aid Station full with both liquid and solid fueling options. Hammer Nutrition provides us with clean products that have been rigoursly tested to ensure quality and effectiveness for their athletes. We provide, free of charge, various Hammer products to all registered athletes.

We highly recommend fueling with Hammer and using their product while training. All of their products are guaranteed to be free of any banned substances and help you reach your maximum potential as an athlete. They also provide fueling education in the form of videos, booklets and podcasts. There's a reason Hammer is trusted and used by some of the best athletes in a variety of different sports. Hammer on, friends.

Our aid station will also serve as the "kitchen" area inside the village. This is where you and or your crew will stop to get breakfast, lunch, dinner and a late night snack. Our food is all home cooked with care and served timely to help you stick with your fueling plan and have a successful event. You can find our race menu in the Athlete Guide. Vegan / Gluten free options are available for every meal upon request.

Lastly, we will have water and RedBull products available throughout the entire event at the Aid Station.

THE SMALL DETAILS

Made By Hand Finisher Medals

We're not a big race company... We're a family run and family focused race with a massive passion for people. One of our favorite things we do is custom make all our own finisher medals. You put hours and hours into training, we want to hand you something that means more. So, we design, cut, sand, paint, stain, assemble and finish all our awards by hand. Every finisher who receives a medal knows we've put in the work to give you something with a little more meaning to it. Every award has been worked on by myself, my wife or our son (Yes, Leo helps too).

From our family to you - it's our little gift and a way to say Thank You for supporting our races.
